Tracker issue for augmenting or eliminating the many unintelligible errors that get spat out by lower layers of the stack.

I've started to remove the code that hides error messages and replaces them with a trace ID. It was far too inconvenient.

This has security implications, because error messages may reveal a misconfigured server.
