Is there a way to detect whether in-place editing is active?

I added a hotkey that moves stuff to the trash when Delete (real delete, not Backspace) is pressed in Finder.

Unfortunately this interferes with editing filenames; if you want to delete characters from a filename, the file gets moved to the trash instead. Therefore I want to disable this hotkey if in-place editing is active. Is this possible?
