Regression: xwayland Clipboard paste broken

in xwayland there has been a weird regression with the clipboard, I can copy from xwayland no problem, however when pasting it only works a single time and then never again with kate, even if I copy more data. and with cosmic edit, I need to press paste twice when it is working in xwayland. Vscode is another app which is totally broken after the first paste.

This issue does not occur with xwayland satellite. I am not sure when this regression occured.
