You will need Windows 10/11 Professional (not Home) to run this system.
- Enable Hyper-V in the computer BIOS
- Enable WSL in Windows
- Launch Powershell as an administrator
- Run:
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart
- Run:
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart
- Download and Install this Windows Update
- Set WSL to version 2 (in Powershell):
- Run:
wsl --set-default-version 2
- Run:
- Install Ubuntu (in Powershell):
- Run:
wsl --install -d Ubuntu
- Run:
- Check Version (22.04) (in Powershell):
- Run:
wsl -l -v
- Run:
To run Ubuntu, just open Powershell (or Terminal), type wsl
and press "Enter". You will gain the Ubuntu shell in few seconds.
To access Ubuntu in Explorer, put: \\wsl$\Ubuntu-22.04\home\<your_username>
in the address bar. You can manage files as normal, but the interface will not automatically refresh and you'll need to refresh (F5) to see changes reflected in the files.
