Performance issues with openfoodfacts website

Many thanks for Open Food Facts, which I use quite regularly and find to be a great resource.

Over the past five years, however, I have noticed that the website quite frequently suffers from slowdowns or temporary unavailability. I would say that, roughly 70% of the time I use it, searches take a long time to load, the database is temporarily inaccessible, or I have to retry several times before my request goes through.

I was wondering whether this is mainly due to the size of the infrastructure required to handle the database and traffic, or whether it is more related to the way the database/website is designed and operated.

Are there any plans to improve the website's performance and reliability in the future?
