DPI-1047: Cannot locate a 64-bit Oracle Client library with thick client mode (missing /lib directory)

Hi,

I'm having troubles using oracledb (3.1.0) with the thick client mode.

from oracledb import init_oracle_client
init_oracle_client()

> DPI-1047: Cannot locate a 64-bit Oracle Client library: "/opt/oracle/instantclient_23_7/lib/libclntsh.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

I'm using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS and followed the installation steps.

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libaio.so.1t64 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libaio.so.1
wget --quiet -O /tmp/instantclient.zip https://download.oracle.com/otn_software/linux/instantclient/2370000/instantclient-basic-linux.x64-23.7.0.25.01.zip
sudo unzip /tmp/instantclient.zip -d /opt/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/oracle/instantclient_23_7:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

libclntsh.so does exist in /opt/oracle/instantclient_23_7/ but there is no /opt/oracle/instantclient_23_7/lib/ directory!

I've checked the troubleshooting part: dpi-1047

What am I missing here? Help is really appreciated!

For some reasons, ORACLE_HOME was set to /opt/oracle/instantclient_23_7/. Once removed, no issues anymore.
