I always prefer XDA threads to random websites. These two TWRP seems to be working:

• TWRP 3.6
• TWRP 3.7

OrangeFox support will be added sooner or later, so TWRP support will not be an issue anymore. But in your case, there are at least two TWRP on XDA, it should be ok.

If something goes wrong, you can install stock MiUI without knowing anything about command line :

1. Download the latest fastboot MiUI version for your phone here
2. Extract the .tgz file (rename it as a .zip if needed)
3. Run the script you want : flash_all.sh on Linux, flash_all.bat on Windows...

WARN : If you flash flash_all_lock, your bootloader will be locked at the end of the process, and you will have to unlock it to install custom ROM.

If you installed OpenAndroidInstaller with flatpak, you should not have dependencies issues. You may need adb and fastboot for tests / installation without using OAI. On Debian or Debian derived distros, just type the following on a terminal

sudo apt install adb fastboot

Hey there, I reached the boot custom recovery step but now I am confused

I have not installed any custom recoveries before and I got confused from the message in the app. Do I have to press Confirm and run or do I have to do something else manually to get the custom recovery in my phone?

I'm not sure of which step you are on. Basically, the installation steps are :

1. Enable USB debugging on Android.
2. OAI will reboot your device in fastboot mode
3. OAI will install a custom recovery
4. OAI will reboot on the custom recovery. Note that you may have to press Vol+ button until you see the recovery icon, else MiUI will start and you will have to start again to the point 2.
5. OAI will install system & addons if selected
6. OAI will restart the device. Enjoy :)

So you don't need to execute adb of fastboot commands (or you don't need OAI). I was suggesting you to run adb devices since OAI was not able to detect you device. It's the command it runs to detect devices.

Thanks! I am a bit confused about step 4. If it reboots automatically, when will I have to press VolUp ?

You have to press the button at the same time you press the button that send the command to your phone ("Confirm and Run"), and hold it until you see TWRP icon.

I installed /e/OS, but after some usage, I don't really like it :P
I wanna move to LineageOS..

I was looking over at their instructions and they require, just like /e/OS, the stock OS on Android 12.
I thought that just installing Lineage over /e/ would work, but apparently it is unsure.

So, I decided that, screw it, I'll flash the default OS again and then Lineage, but I am a little bit confused, what should I do? (Note: The Xiaomi Firmware Updater is now located over at https://xmfirmwareupdater.com)

Asking the folks over at LineageOS wasn't very successful, not very friendly feedback.

I also prefer Lineage, with Trebuchet (I don't like their custom launcher & rebranded apps, even if it can be useful for people wanting alternative to GAFAM...)

In fact, you don't need to follow exactly this instruction. It's a simple sentence to have people the right firmware, else you may encounter issues (like buggy camera, but else the phone is usable). But if /e/OS is also on Android 12, even they didn't modify the firmware partition, either they replaced it by the Android 12 firmware... So you may don't need to flash MiUI again (but if you want to be sure, you can ^^)

Some people are usually nice on Telegram channels... But it's also luck ^^

To flash MiUI again :

1. Download the latest MiUI version available for your exact phone, with the "fastboot" type (so a .tgz file)
2. Extract the file. Rename it to .zip if needed.
3. Run the script flash_all.sh or flash_all.bat depending on your PC OS (resp. Linux or Windows). WARN : Don't flash a script containing lock in the codename, else it will lock your bootloader.
4. The phone will reboot on MiUi.

And now you're a pro in manual flashing, but can you try OAI once again to see if the problem encountered are repeatable, please ? Try granting powers to OAI (sudo on Linux) to see if it's a permissions issue...

I did some heavy modifications to /e/ to make look more like home, such as changing the launcher and doing some debloating (well yeah imo the default apps of /e/ suck)

I'll stick to this for now and we'll see if I move to Lineage.

I just want something working for the summer, since I won't be having computer access for the most of it
