Step 0 - Mobile Interns Introductory Step

Internship Hardware Requirements

To participate in this internship, you will need the following:

1. A laptop or desktop computer with a minimum of 8GB of RAM.
2. An Android device (phone or tablet) with a minimum of 3GB of RAM and running Android 9 "Pie" or later, and/or a Chromebook.
   • If you do not have a physical Android or Chromebook device, we suggest asking around to see if a friend or family member has an old Android phone they no longer use.
3. A stable internet connection.

Once you have confirmed that you meet the aforementioned requirements, please say hi to everyone in the Discord channel and let us know that you have reached Step 0.

Watch the Organization and Follow Contributors

In GitHub, we follow organizations and follow people to receive notifications about their activity. Look for the "Watch" button at the top right of the page when you are in a repository. Additionally, follow each other to stay updated on what others in the group are working on.

• Use the "Watch" button in repositories you're working on and "Follow" individuals to keep up with the latest activities.
• Follow the Open Learning Exchange to stay updated on changes with OLE on GitHub.
• Watch the Open Learning Exchange's myPlanet repository to stay updated on changes with the main repository you'll be working on.
• Follow OLE's CTO dogi and myPlanet's core developer Gideon on GitHub.
• You can also follow other active mobile interns to stay updated on their activities.

Package Management (macOS/Windows)

If you are on macOS or Windows, we recommend you get a package manager:

• macOS: Homebrew or MacPorts
• Windows: Chocolatey Community

Discord Installation and Server Nickname

• Discord will be the primary communication tool for this internship, so please download and install it on your computer and Android device.
  • with Homebrew brew install --cask discord
  • with Chocolatey choco install discord
• If your preferred name differs significantly from your Discord "Display Name," click on "treehouses" in the upper left of the Discord interface. Then, select "Edit Server Profile" from the menu and update your server nickname to include your preferred name or first name and last name initial.
