Fix External Access to CryptoBot Dashboard

Issue: Port 3001 is blocked by firewall. The bot is running but not accessible from outside.

Status: Server is running perfectly ✅ - Just need to open access

🎯 Quick Fix - Choose ONE Option

Option 1: Use Nginx Reverse Proxy (RECOMMENDED) ⭐

Access via: http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/

Advantages:

  • ✅ Port 80 already open (no firewall changes needed)
  • ✅ Cleaner URL
  • ✅ More secure
  • ✅ Professional setup

Steps:

# SSH into VPS
ssh deploy@72.60.56.80

# The config file is already created at ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf
# Install it with these commands:

sudo cp ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot
sudo ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/cryptobot
sudo nginx -t
sudo systemctl reload nginx

Then access:

http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/

Option 2: Open Port 3001 (SIMPLER)

Access via: http://72.60.56.80:3001/

Advantages:

  • ✅ Simpler - just one command
  • ✅ Direct access to bot

Steps:

# SSH into VPS
ssh deploy@72.60.56.80

# Open port 3001 in firewall
sudo ufw allow 3001/tcp
sudo ufw reload

# OR if using iptables:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3001 -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables-save | sudo tee /etc/iptables/rules.v4

Then access:

http://72.60.56.80:3001/

🔍 Why This Happened

Your VPS has a firewall that blocks most ports by default. Only these ports are open:

  • ✅ Port 22 (SSH) - Open
  • ✅ Port 80 (HTTP) - Open
  • ✅ Port 443 (HTTPS) - Open
  • ❌ Port 3001 (CryptoBot) - BLOCKED

The bot IS running and working perfectly - it's just the firewall blocking external connections.

✅ Verification

After applying either option, test access:

From Your Browser:

Option 1: http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/
Option 2: http://72.60.56.80:3001/

You should see: 🤖 Crypto Trading Bot Dashboard

From Command Line:

# Test Option 1 (nginx proxy)
curl http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/

# Test Option 2 (direct port)
curl http://72.60.56.80:3001/

🛠️ What I Already Did

✅ Created nginx config file: ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf ✅ Verified bot is running: PM2 status online ✅ Verified port is listening: 3001 active ✅ Tested internally: Works perfectly from VPS

Only missing: External firewall access

🔐 Security Note

Option 1 (Nginx Proxy) is more secure because:

  • Nginx handles SSL/TLS termination
  • Can add rate limiting
  • Can add authentication
  • Professional production setup

Option 2 (Direct Port) is fine for:

  • Development/testing
  • Quick setup
  • Personal use

📋 Detailed Steps for Option 1 (Recommended)

Step 1: Verify Config File

ssh deploy@72.60.56.80
cat ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf

You should see the nginx configuration.

Step 2: Install Config

# Copy to nginx sites-available
sudo cp ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot

# Create symbolic link to enable it
sudo ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/cryptobot

# Test nginx configuration (should say "test is successful")
sudo nginx -t

Step 3: Reload Nginx

# Reload nginx to apply changes
sudo systemctl reload nginx

# Check nginx status
sudo systemctl status nginx

Step 4: Test Access

# Test from VPS
curl http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/

# Test API
curl http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/api/status

Step 5: Open in Browser

http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/

🚨 Troubleshooting

Nginx test fails?

# Check nginx error log
sudo tail -n 50 /var/log/nginx/error.log

# Check if config file is valid
sudo nginx -t

Port 3001 not responding?

# Check if bot is running
pm2 status

# Restart bot
pm2 restart cryptoBot

# Check logs
pm2 logs cryptoBot

Firewall blocking?

# Check UFW status
sudo ufw status

# Check if port is open
sudo netstat -tuln | grep 3001

Still can't access?

# Test from VPS itself
curl http://localhost:3001/

# If this works, it's definitely a firewall issue
# Apply Option 2 to open the port directly

🎯 Recommended Setup (Best Practice)

For production use, I recommend Option 1 with these additions:

1. Add SSL Certificate (Optional)

# Install certbot
sudo apt install certbot python3-certbot-nginx

# Get SSL certificate (if you have a domain)
sudo certbot --nginx -d yourdomain.com

2. Add Basic Authentication (Optional)

# Install apache2-utils
sudo apt install apache2-utils

# Create password file
sudo htpasswd -c /etc/nginx/.htpasswd cryptobot

# Add to nginx config:
# location /cryptobot/ {
#     auth_basic "CryptoBot Dashboard";
#     auth_basic_user_file /etc/nginx/.htpasswd;
# ...
# }

3. Enable Rate Limiting (Optional)

Add to nginx config:

limit_req_zone $binary_remote_addr zone=cryptobot:10m rate=10r/s;

location /cryptobot/ {
    limit_req zone=cryptobot burst=20;
    ...
}

📊 Current Status

VPS IP: 72.60.56.80
Bot Port: 3001
Bot Status: ✅ Running
Firewall: ❌ Blocking port 3001
Nginx: ✅ Installed and running
Config: ✅ Created at ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf

Action Needed: Apply Option 1 OR Option 2
Estimated Time: 2 minutes

🎉 After Setup

Once you complete either option, you'll be able to:

  1. Access Dashboard:

    • Option 1: http://72.60.56.80/cryptobot/
    • Option 2: http://72.60.56.80:3001/
  2. Initialize Bot:

    • Click "Initialize System"
    • Choose FAKE or REAL mode
    • Set initial budget
  3. Start Trading:

    • Click "Start All Bots"
    • View real-time stats
    • Monitor trades
  4. Auto-Deployment Works:

    • Push to GitHub main branch
    • Bot auto-updates
    • No downtime!

💡 Quick Commands Reference

Option 1 (Nginx - Recommended):

ssh deploy@72.60.56.80
sudo cp ~/cryptobot-nginx.conf /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot
sudo ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/cryptobot /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/cryptobot
sudo nginx -t && sudo systemctl reload nginx

Option 2 (Open Port - Simpler):

ssh deploy@72.60.56.80
sudo ufw allow 3001/tcp && sudo ufw reload

Choose one option and run the commands. Your bot will be accessible in 2 minutes! 🚀
