Have you thought about writing a KMM lib?

Since you have 2 good libs for Android and iOS and the needed knowledge, it shouldn't be too difficult to merge both libs into a KMM library, that would be fascinating.

Yes, this project is written with KMM in mind. We tried to keep Android dependency only in the modules where it actually uses native API. At some point we plan to make them multiplatform, but I hardly see this coming this year.

OK, just out of curiosity, what are you guys currently working on, what's your top priority? If this can be shared in public, because I'm wondering if I'm missing some developments and I should focus more on other stuff, since somehow I have the feeling that not Google or Nordic are investing heavily in Bluetooth in general right now 🤔

We are doing Bluetooth, just other projects: nRF Mesh, nRF Toolbox, nRF Connect for Mobile, DFU libraries, BLE library for iOS... I wish we could focus on this library, but sometimes we need to deliver some other apps.

Hi @philips77 checking in on this - it seems like y'all are making great progress on the latest alphas. We're using them over at https://github.com/meshtastic/Meshtastic-Android/ with pretty great success.

We've been working towards Kotlin Multiplatform, migrating our application slowly but surely. We're now looking at our BLE module and wishing we could leverage Nordic for the other platforms. Curious to the roadmap, and if we could help out at all to get some traction with Kotlin Multiplatform.

I do see the sadly neglected https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/KMM-BLE-Library and the more recently updated https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/IOS-BLE-Library .

My current thought is to write a similar KMM wrapper to abstract the Kotlin-BLE-Library and IOS-BLE-Library to a common interface. This also allows me to provide implementations down the road for desktop and web targets.

The library is intended to eventually be multiplatform on its own, without a wrapper. Most modules are Kotlin-only, without any references to Android. The "core" interfaces also have other platforms (mostly iOS) in mind, hence no API to request MTU, etc. in them, only in ...-android.

The module structure will have to change, I suspect. Perhaps we'll add ...-ios and ...-kmp modules, or just the latter. I don't have much KMP experience yet, we just started experimenting with it.

If you start a new project in KMP now, consider KABLE.

Regarding the BLE Library for iOS - we're working on it in paralell. We still have native iOS projects where we use it. The KMM lib was based on the 1st version of this library, which we deprecated.
