How to parse an array of objects

Hi,
how would i parse an array of objects that look something like:

    {
        "dict":
        [
            { "a": "ant" },
            { "b": "bee" },
            { "c": "cat" },
            // etc ...
        ]
    }

where niether the keys nor values are known in advance?
The idea is to populate a std::map<string,string> with it.

ok, a web search unearthed elem.items() (for-range loop) which looks promissing;
went back to the project main page and indeed items() is listed there (now that i know what to search for)
