Bug Overview

#981 bumped stable from 1.26 to 1.28, but mainline and latest are still on 1.27.

Expected Behavior

I'd expect mainline to be on 1.28, too.

Steps to Reproduce the Bug

# docker run -it nginx:mainline nginx -v
nginx version: nginx/1.27.5

Environment Details

  • Version/release of Docker and method of installation: n/a, all.
  • Version of the Docker NGINX image or specific commit: mainline and latest
  • Target deployment platform: n/a
  • Target OS: n/a

Additional Context

Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding the intent here - but it feels counterintuitive that mainline is behind stable, so I assume this is an oversight.

In nginx the convention is to use odd versions for mainline and even versions for stable releases.
Also the only real difference between 1.27.5 and 1.28.0 is a bugfix in quic which will be release in mainline with 1.29.x release.

1.27.5 is the current mainline version of nginx. I see no reason to build mainline image with stable nginx.
You may want to re-open this issue at nginx repository itself if you think stable version should always be smaller than the mainline.
