.scss is highlighting but not .sass? any ideas?

Check the "Putting Haml in its place" section of the README for a known-issue with the built-in Haml syntax in Sublime Text 2 (and some builds of 3).

If that's taken care of, also try View -> Syntax -> Open all with current extension as… -> Sass from any .sass file.
