A suggestion: use jest for most of it, as it received a lot of love the last few weeks fixing a lot of small problems that made it a bad test runner before.

moved this into the next milestone, but if @gvn wants to take a stab at this while I'm on PTO that's perfectly fine too, so I moved it back to the current milestone (feel free to move it up again if desired)
