Can't get info from my batteries? #53

I'm using the Moyina FT232RL but not using the logic level converter because I was under the impression that I didn't need it with this particular FT232, I can connect to it but can't get battery info, it doesn't see my batteries when I run m.hleath() or anything else. I've got RXD connected to J1, TXD to J2, and GND to GND. amd I doing something wrong? |

Wiring as described is correct but TX to J2 needs to be via a level shifter to deliver 0-18V TX data to the battery, PS I've tested the m18GUI and all seems to work as expected, a very nice addition... |

Thanks, I want to keep working on the GUI but need to get the haredware working with my batteries lol. I was under the impression that I didn't need a logic level converter with this particular board because it has a switch to flip between 3.3V and 5V, I've got it set to 3.3V and did read that the board sets the logic level to 3.3V and not just the VCC. |

Just checked back to one of the early youtube vids and it mentions J2 runs at a high voltage logic level (0-12v logic).. |

I can vouch for GPSfan's ctts from the earlier discussions, works well, or just the level shifter as in the opening readme.md will most lightly be fine with your adaptor... Hope you are up and running soon, I'll keep an eye out for any updates to the GUI, again very nice work... |

would this logic level shifter work? the spark fun model is like $38 in my maple dollars, but this is only like $12 and looks to do the same thing? As soon as I get the shifter sorted out I'll fix up the GUI more, it too big currently, but I didn't want to get too far on it without being able to actually use it. It's just a "simple" GUI that runs your code for users who aren't familiar with command line stuff. I've got a bunch of different ideas for it, and might port it to C# depending on how powerful python is. |

Morning... yes that should be fine, I note down in the description it shows a 2 channel shifter, but that might just be a typo... but yes should work, I also found these offerings on the same amazon site ........ |

I'll try this one and see what happens when it arrives today. I'd be happy for a bespoke board, but like you say I'm also worried it'll show up at my door in a little envelope and then I get a bill for $250 lmao. |

yep we didn't know how good we had it until it all went belly up.... I'm in the EU but from the time of messages I think your to my West... I've a second version of that PCB just about to leave JLC ... nothing major just some tweaks... prob 10-14 days unless the holidays holds things up - in the mean time I search around as to how to exchange details without getting a deluge of spam... H |

I got my level shifters today and got it working. so i can continue adding stuff to the GUI. I'm curious, do you know if they make those battery connectors in a 5 pin model? I want to mod my M18 hybrid fan to also charge a battery in the same way that the M18 light does but I think I need all 5 pins to be able to use the tool as well as charge it. |

Ah excellent, that was no time at all.... no sorry I've only seen 2 or 4 pin connectors, I haven't seen anything with the charge pin installed... and yes the built in charger on the light pack is a nice idea... H |

so I'm 99% sure you will need level shifting to get the battery to read the adaptors TX data, both 3v3 or 5v logic level would need to be increased up to 12v or greater... so its actually an amplifier cct but it gets called a level shifter....
