Quality of Service (QoS) Configuration

Introduction to QoS

Quality of Service (QoS) allows you to manage and prioritize network traffic to ensure optimal performance for critical applications and devices.

Configuring QoS Policies in OVS

  1. Create QoS Queues:

    • Create a QoS queue for high-priority traffic:
      sudo ovs-vsctl -- set port eth1 qos=@newqos -- --id=@newqos create qos type=linux-htb other-config:max-rate=1000000000 queues:123=@q -- --id=@q create queue other-config:min-rate=500000000 other-config:max-rate=1000000000
  2. Distribute Bandwidth Among VLANs:

    • Assign bandwidth limits to each VLAN:
      sudo ovs-vsctl set port vlan10 qos=@newqos
      sudo ovs-vsctl set port vlan20 qos=@newqos
      sudo ovs-vsctl set port vlan30 qos=@newqos
      sudo ovs-vsctl set port vlan40 qos=@newqos
      sudo ovs-vsctl set port vlan50 qos=@newqos
  3. Prioritize Traffic for Specific Devices or Applications:

    • Create rules to prioritize traffic for specific devices or applications based on IP addresses or protocols.

You now have QoS policies configured in OVS to manage and prioritize network traffic.
