Locale not working

Hi,
When I change the locale: value in my config file, it does not have any effect on the site. I have the ui-text.yml file in my _data directory, and I have ended and rerun jekyll serve. I have used the following valued for locale: es, ES, es-ES, and es-CO.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I should try next?

I'm about to change all the elements by hand in the template.

P.S. I did end up changing the values directly in the template files, and I will not be online for the next three weeks, so there is no urgency to get this question answered. Thanks for making an awesome template.
