This has been the best app for controlling my receiver but beginning in approximately November/December, it stopped being able to control the volume. The app comes up in “standby” mode only. I am able to toggle between different media, zones, etc…but again, no volume control. Is there a fix for this? Thank you!

I have the same issue. Sometimes it gets fixed by launching the app again. I changed nothing regarding my network configuration or on my receiver, so I assume it is a kind of regression in a recent update
which receiver model and which app version do you use?
Please try following:
Detach the receiver from A/C, wait a little bit and attach the receiver to A/C again. This shall reset the network module of the receiver. Please note the network module is always active in stand-by mode and may work unstable after some time being in stand-by.
Many people report that Onkyo firmware may work unstable and the factory reset of the Onkyo device sometime helps. If it is possible please perform the factory reset of the receiver.
Sometime it helps to uninstall the app from the phone and install it again
If you think it is a regression after the app update, please manually download and install a previous version from here: https://github.com/mkulesh/onpc/releases
