Not working with jQuery 1.4.2 #10

Hi,
I am extending on a project that started some years ago and uses jQuery 1.4.2.
I want to build some dependencies in a form but it doesn't work.
When I switch to jQuery 1.7.1 the dependencies do work well. Do you know of any known issues with older jQuery? In the Readme it says compatible with jQuery 1.4..
Switching to a newer version of jQuery is not an option, because of the scale of the existing project.
