I must say that we've discontinued this project and now we're developing a new Mconf-Mobile supported on Android and iOS, open source, take a look if you're interested: https://github.com/mconf/bbb-air-client
Yes, you can use the existing code, but I highly don't recommend such thing because this code isn't developed actively anymore.
If you decide to do so, it won't be a very easy task because besides the desktop sharing is a video stream, it uses a different codec than the supported video call - while video uses H.263, desktop sharing uses SV2. You would need to implement the whole signaling for desktop sharing, and also recompile ffmpeg with SV2 enabled in order to decode it.
I really encourage you to take a look at the new Adobe Air based client in order to build on top of, since it's in active development.
