The process will be the same as our current process for upgrading the MicroStrategyLibrary.

Just need to be careful to backup users’ configuration files like configOverride.properties, configDefault.properties….

Comparing replacing the whole war file and just replacing rest server jar, restful-api-1.0-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar
As there are also WebApp*.jar under lib folder, which also packed in the fat jar restful-api-1.0-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar, the change will make them inconsistent.
We have also changed some configurations files like the files under WEB-INF/classes/auth
There may be other files we need to update to make them consistent, or it will cause unexpected error.
 
As we have done many changes since last release, it is not easy to list all the files needed to replace, or at last actually we have replaced all the files.
So I would suggest to replace the whole war file, it could also be done in the install process.

As Jiao mentioned previously, it isn’t hard to replace the JAR file for patching RESTful APIs. For #1, it might also be feasible in Q2 to do patch for REST APIs.

I spoke with Jose about this. The patch proposal is not going to be an easy change. The questions you raise make it clear that it requires careful thought. I don’t think it can be implemented in Q2. If I were to answer what I thought I’d say:
 
I don’t think that a Patched Library Server will have all of the latest APIs as if it was a fresh install. The reason I say this is that it is going to easier to patch some aspects of the WAR file over others. For example, I think it will be easier to patch the static resources than to patch the REST API endpoints. If we applied a patch, I believe it should be limited to static resources.
Based on #1, the /status endpoint would not likely change. It is possible that we augment it for a new number (we use MAJOR.MINOR.HOTFIX.BUILD currently, but could add: a PATCH version after BUILD).
 
What does this mean? Well, if we did allow a patch, the Outlook Add-in would still depend on the endpoints of the target REST API server. This means that the plugin source code needs to be as flexible as it can w.r.t. to the REST API version.
 
For the Hyper Outlook Plugin, in particular, it is not clear to me that we need to support a version older than 11.1.2. Jose: are you still waiting to hear that answer back from the Executive Mgmt team?

I’m not sure whether I get the conclusions correctly, can you double confirm following questions?
 
- Patched Library Server will have all latest APIs as well as Hyper Outlook add-in resources, it will behave same as fresh install of latest Library Server.
- Patched Library Server’s /api/status will return version number like 11.1.2.xxxx or 11.1.2xx.xxxx which indicates it has APIs we added for Hyper.
 
I included Mayur and Andrew in the thread.

Today we had a meeting with Tim to  discuss compatibility requirements for new Hyper products, specifically for the Outlook add-in. The two main questions were:
 
If we need Library  11.1.2 to be able to make the add-in work, should we force our users to upgrade the Library server? If so, what is  the way to upgrade? It could be  a full  war file deployment or just a patch as we discussed previously.

What about licenses if we have to support  the above?
We will deal with that on a case by  case basis but if we are connecting to an Iserver where the privileges for the new product do not exist, we will just default to sending Library web as the application type and it should work. @Li, Yan (Peter Lee) @Chen, Liang (IS)  we should consider that case.  @Reidway, William this should answer the question we had pending.
Also,  we need to make sure that in Workstation we cannot generate the xml file if the Library server version, including the patch, is not the right one.
 
 
@Carranza, Eduardo I think the above should also apply to the MSTR Office add-in.
