Hi there,
First of all, thank you for your amazing work on FokusLauncher! It’s a fantastic project, and I truly appreciate the effort you’re putting into it as volunteers.
I’m writing to suggest an enhancement that could improve the flexibility of quick access icons. Currently, the available icons are numerous, but it can be difficult to find a real match for certain apps or actions. For example:
- There is no globe or world icon to represent a browser.
- While there are 20+ symbols oft displays and various icons visualizing wireless signal strength, there is no calendar icon or anything similar.
- even a pen or pencil for basic notetaking apps is missing, but various types of arrows, which I can't make my mind up for what app these could be useful for.
- Many apps or custom shortcuts lack intuitive representations.
To address this, I’d like to propose the following solutions:
- Support for emojis in quick access icons. Many apps natively support emojis, and they cover a wide range of use cases (e.g., 🌍 for browsers, 📅 for calendars, etc.).
- Allow the use of app-specific icons or icon packs. Many launchers already support this, and it would leverage the thoughtful designs created by app developers.
I understand that FokusLauncher aims to minimize distractions, and colorful or rewarding icons might conflict with this philosophy. However, this could be an optional feature, leaving the decision to the user. Since widgets and custom backgrounds are already supported, this would simply extend the customization options without affecting the default experience and undermining the philosophy.
If this aligns with the project’s goals, I’d be happy to help brainstorm further or provide additional examples.
Thanks again for your time and consideration!
Best regards,
Nils
