to compile the code , must i use GPU

i am so sorry to disturb you . i have question want to inquire you ,could i compile this code without GPU? because my laptop without GPU, if it is possible , should l modify the source codes ?
then could i use the code to achieve the function like scene text recognition ? i mean , it could generate the text file ?
