In the following manpage, it references a no longer used file by efte ~/.efterc, I actually ended up using good old strace to determine where efte was looking for files within my home directory so I can customize efte without changing the global configuration in /usr/share/efte/config

.I ~/.efterc

Would be nice to have a more updated manpage. I checked the other packaging directories, and it doesn't seem like RPM or other package methods have a manpage at all.

Having the man page up-to-date and accurate would be nice, of course. If you already know what needs correcting in it, then please submit a pull request.

I believe I know what needs to be updated. I will compare the manpage to the current options available in the efte code. Should have a PR available potentially by this weekend for you. Is there any new developments in efte lately? Also, I have been trying to create a Dockerfile syntax highlighter with little success. Would be nice to have some modern syntaxes supported, or some documentation on how to create custom highlighters. As I'd definitely be open to creating highlighers for Dockerfile, among others if I had documentation on how it works.

Thanks in advance!

Not really... After the latest release I've made some small bug fixes, and implemented #94, but even that was 4 years ago... Time flies.

The thing is that efte is pretty good as it is, and while I would love to see e.g. UTF-8 support some day, it's a huge task and would require modifying a huge portion of the code. However, adding syntax highlighters is definitely something to look at, as it would probably be doable with relatively small effort.

Sadly there isn't any documentation that I'm aware of, and I'm not myself familiar with how syntax highlighting works either.
