Can't we take a look at the source of cheapcast and implement it in our way? That would be awesome, than we can act like it so we can use it in apps like Youtube, Google Play Music and so on...

I would like to hear the possibilities!

I keep reading that using this with apps that currently work with the ChromeCast is impossible. I'd be willing to put some time into investigate, but before I do, is there a way?

I think I understand the basics. The chromecast has a unique identifier that lets the app determine whether it is a valid receiver or not. Unless we could make our PiCast a "valid receiver", the normal chromecast apps won't work? And since google determines who's valid and who is not...

Looks like things became worse and Google locked down the protocol - https://github.com/dz0ny/leapcast
