Since you mentioned that you don't have a Samsung phone, I made this video for you to see just how amazing this quick launch palette works. You need to download it from the we transfer link below because it's too large to upload here.
The gray circle you see is essentially my thumb moving around.
What you see is how easily it is to open by sliding from the side and then navigating around to the different buttons, and once letting go launching the app. Moving your thumb outside the palette area allows the window to stay open for times when you want to be more deliberate about your choice and also to allow you to access the settings wheel.
Notice that there is no text for the icons but the name can be seen as you hover over them by using that setting in the settings window. Obviously the issue of icons in this context is not s problem because they already exist, so while I think the emoji suggestion you make is a great one, I also think it would be amazing to have some kind of built in library of emoji like images suitable for various tasks that align with the known actions, something similar to what you now have on that page but accessible directly through the configuration window.
In terms of how to access the palette, both sliding in from the side as well as activating from an existing button come to mind. The former must take into account the fact that many of us already have similar schemes like this quick launch, so being able to adjust the placement of the handle to allow everyone to play nicely together is really important.
In terms of using a button, the ideal scheme would be an invisible button placed out of the way on the main screen or even moved to the notch or notification area where holding down or pressing would open it.
All of this would be in addition to the other idea, which is to allow a button to store a list of existing key maps they can be launched in the same way, by holding down your thumb, scrolling and letting go, or by moving your thumb outside the menu to make a more deliberate choice and configure the settings of the menu. This scheme is useful for users who prefer a text based method is accessing key maps rather than using emojis and symbols.
The goal here is to provide the best user experience of expanding the world of key maps beyond the physical buttons while also offering some methods to address screen clutter. I would probably never leave a standalone button on the screen (other than a launcher as described above) but others might. Having all these options makes your app super useful.
Developer TODO (don't remove)
