Northstar BR24 not recognised

Hello,
I've recently got a Northstar BR24. I'm trying to get it work with mayara since I've no other controller/display...

I'm getting the following errors : it seems unknown, but I still get "BR24 75" as custom name, and "0924A10745" as Serial number.

ERROR mayara::brand::navico::report] Navico-0924A10745: Control Target separation not supported on this radar 

• I launch mayara
• I change the status to transmit (it turns).
• I then modify every parameters from web controls.

Would you have any clue on what's wrong ?

Looked at the files, it's quite simple: part of the detection process is the model type, and yours is not the standard BR24 model type.

I'm crossing the bay of Biscay today, talking to you via Starlink, but I'm not up to firing up VS code and try to fix this.

Are you able to do slight editing in the rust code (with my help) in, for example, Visual Studio Code, or do I need to push changes for you to pull?

PS actually more successful than I would have thought, the code has never been run with a BR24! you're getting a picture and most parameters seem to work?

I would be glad to fix it with your help, where should I look first ?
I'm getting a blank picture, so difficult to tell if the other parameters are working...
Actually, I've just tried today with OpenCPN and radar_pi, and got a picture, but nothing with mayara.

It's not a permanent fix, but can you see whether the model errors go away when you change

BR24 = 0x0f,

into

BR24 = 0x0e,

in src/brand/navico/mod.rs (line 153)?

The target separation error can be patched by commenting out:

self.set_value(&ControlType::TargetSeparation, target_sep as f32);

in src/brand/navico/report.rs (line 973)

I'll have to look into why you are not seeing any image, maybe it's not picking up the right multicast address to subscribe to?
Can you make a log at trace mode and tell me what this produces:

Thanks, previous errors are gone, so I can get Operating hours and Firmware version, but still no image.

Actually I did get them once while playing around. Even before making those changes, but only with the 2d viewer. Then It was gone again, couldn't get it back yet... strange. Could it be related to the server / browser ? I tried both firefox and chrome on Linux Mint.

I tried --output option and it prints some random characters, does that mean that it gets the multicast data ?

Where should I put this :

I meant, that trace log is already in there. Just enable trace. If you're unable to set it via RUST_LOG=trace (prepended to the mayara command, or exported) then use `-v -v` as arguments.

Oops, I guess -v argument cancelled RUST_LOG=trace...

Here is a log where I start mayara, then connect to 2D viewer and start Transmit.

I see this:

Looks as if it is not a networking issue, it is receiving data. However the range looks funny. I guess that the code is still missing some BR24 particular deviations from the newer models (4G and HALO work flawlessly.)

Have you seen that your radar only has 82 hours on the clock?

Can you make a PCAP file from where you control it using radar_pi + OpenCPN, with a picture showing, and then also upload a screenshot of that picture? This gives me an easier basis to start making the necessary adjustments. Best place to send these is as a pull request for https://github.com/keesverruijt/radar-recordings/ (please add a subdirectory to navico with your boat name or user name, I'm getting confused with everything in one directory.)

• No networking issue I guess, since I'm getting images from openCPN.
• I noticed 82 hours. I was not confident it will work when I purchased it online for 80€. If it does and is really 82 hours old, I sure made a very good deal !
• I also think it is a scaling issue on range and angle : I noticed an image with mayara at 24NM (range available in OpenCPN but not mayara), but it is malformed.

Both corresponding mayara logs and wireshark pcapng are in this folder

PS : by the way, radar status 0 trigger an error with mayara.

OK thanks. That radar picture in radar_pi does not look promising, by the way. There may be a physical issue with the radar, unless you are in a very unusual physical position.

Hehe I hadn't thought about testing it inside; I'm lucky to have (a) a boat and (b) a house next to a canal ...

Ok, I got it running with your original file (error and detection wise) and with the files I already had I fixed the display issues (the range in the BR24 is only 3 bytes, and sometimes the next byte contains something we don't really know what it is.)

BTW Firefox and Chrome should both support the WebGL viewer on Linux.

• Why is 24nm not available in viewers/controls even if :
