Support 'tail' of a file instead of pipe-only communication

Pipes have the disadvantage of only permitting one reader per writer. The ability to process lines as they are written to a log file ('tail'-type behaviour) would make this a lot nicer.

Even better, support reading from multiple files and/or pipes.
