Missing feature from workflows. Article Status "Remain published - Review new edits" Maybe leverage the article versioning system to make this happen?

I love the workflows feature but I believe it is missing one feature that I believe would not be difficult for core developers to include in a new Joomla version.

This conversations starts with articles that are already published, need to remain published, but undergo frequent revisions that need review.

Currently, I believe in workflows for an existing published article, it would have to change to the "unpublished" status before it could undergo edits that would need review then republished.

Is it possible for a new article status to be created that would leave the currently published article alone till edits have been approved?

New edits need to be made to a currently published page:
Original page remains published till edits approved --> editor makes edits without the published page displaying the new changes (perhaps using content article versioning where a new version is created but not published yet) --> Reviewer reviews the edits and approves --> New version of article from article versioning is "restored"/published to accomplish the workflow.

If this already exists please point me in the direction. If not, could this make it onto the roadmap for future enhancements? This is highly desired where we need the ability to review editors work before making it live on the site for existing pages/articles that need to remain published at all times. After Googling, I see this type of request has been asked through the last 5 years or so but no one had a solution.
