Joomla\Image hardcoded black background is depressing

So, I read this: joomla-framework/image#21

We are among the handful of developers who do (small) image manipulation (I hope it's not really a handful).

I was about to add a feature that makes it possible when resizing not to be stuck on the hardcoded color black for new backgrounds:

Recently it was said, new features don't make sense, because the whole thing is deprecated and no future updates are planned:

We don't need a huge external library, but tiny changes like the one mentioned.

In J4 Joomla\CMS\Image is still in use and it's not really deprecated, even if namespaces are going to change in 5.0:

So what is going on now? Is it possible to work on it?
