Split from #371

Audit the checkpoint command for basic end-to-end functionality:

  • Checkpoint emit - verify checkpoints are created correctly
  • Checkpoint restore - verify state is correctly restored from checkpoints

Acceptance criteria

  • Tested with real tasks
  • Working/broken/incomplete status documented
  • Individual issues filed for anything broken
