Metal support on Intel Macs

Many of us Mac users still have Intel-based Macs with decent GPUs, like the 2020 iMac 5K which can have up to a Pro 5700 XT with 16GB VRAM. These machines support Metal 3 and MLC LLM runs on them, so I'm wondering what's preventing Cortex/Jan from doing so as well. I realize I can install Linux or Windows and boot into that, but it's a hassle compared to just running it in MacOS.

Has anyone actually tried compiling with Metal support for Intel Macs? I'm afraid my knowledge of Mac development isn't good enough to give it a go myself.
