Afaict, the logfile is written to the same directory as the .jar file, which means that that directory needs to be writeable by the user. That is probably not a good idea. IMO, the logfile should be written to the output directory. If for some reason that's not possible, I guess there needs to be a separate command line parameter for an alternative location for the logfile.
