Assist: TTS only?

I have configured Assist, so it would use TTS (Piper) and STT (Google Cloud, couldn’t get Whisper working). The thing is, most of the time, I prefer entering text through a keyboard / through the touch screen, but I’d still like to hear the answer. Google Services often have some sort of loudspeaker symbol next to text results, maybe that’s a way to do it? Maybe it would also be possible to just configure TTS, leave out the STT configuration and still be able to use the TTS?
