Inline::Lua disappeared from CPAN

I just noticed that Inline::Lua no longer appears to be available on CPAN. I just wondered if this is intentional and whether it might reappear?

And I saw that http://cpan.metacpan.org/authors/id/M/ME/MEFORLUA/Inline-Lua-1.0.0.tar.gz was uploaded, but the tarball seems problematic in some ways, I'm getting some warnings with Archive::Tar.
Also it has no changelog file.

Hmmm, good spot. I can untar the package, but it looks like a completely different implementation of that module. If it's going to break code that relied on the previous Inline::Lua then it would be good if it was released under a different namespace.

Hi, and thanks for reporting! I reached out to a friend, and there are indeed some indexing problems with a new release of this module under a new maintainer, which is apparently causing problems with older releases. I don't do much Perl these days, so I think I gave up ownership to all of my modules to ADOPTME a while ago - this MEFORLUA person may have expressed interest and gotten ownership!

I would've filed an issue against https://github.com/ItsMeForLua/Inline-Lua, but I'm guessing that repo is currently private

The CPAN index did not rollback like I had expected it to when I had deleted a recent tarball from PAUSE.

I had since forked your repo and re-pushed the tar to CPAN. It is now available again at https://metacpan.org/dist/Inline-Lua

The new codebase which is written in rust and uses mlua to generate lua runtime instances is currently still getting tested by me. OP had mentioned his company uses Inline::Lua, so I took his feedback and decided to release the rewrite into a seperate module called Inline::Lua2

The tarball looks broken in several ways.
It doesn't have a version even in the tarball filename.
Metadata got lost, LICENSE file is gone, license is unknown in META files.

I am maintaining devel:languages:perl in the openSUSE repository and I know this tarball won't work well.

If you really want to bring the 0.17 version back, I suggest talking to CPAN admins (I can also do that if you want). Maybe they can bring it back.

If the version contains the fixes that were merged since version 0.17, I suggest creating a proper release.

I was able to download and install Inline::Lua just fine in a docker container yesterday.
However, I do see that the license file and a couple other misc documents weren't bundled.

I can fix that by tomorrow. But if you rely on any of those particular files, or a particular older version, I can try to fix it ASAP, I'll just have to re-schedule some meetings I had today.

I do not intend on creating conflicts with existing user codebases, so I am open to working out accommodations.
I had previously made an amateur assumption that no one used Inline::Lua simply based on the download history.
This was, as a said, simply an amateur assumption on my part, so I apologize for that. Otherwise I would have been more careful.

@perlpunk The version that is currently at https://metacpan.org/dist/Inline-Lua is the v0.17 release. I made no changes to the code. Everything is the original Inline::Lua, no changes were made by me for compatibility and licensing reasons.

Ok, in that case I suggest to mark your tarball for deletion in PAUSE, and I'm talking to CPAN / PAUSE admins about reindexing the old tarball.

I'll wait for everything to be re-indexed before I delete the v0.17 tarball due to the implications regarding the namespace.

In the mean time, all the versions of Inline::Lua can be found in this github repo if needed.
I've rescheduled my meetings for today to get this fixed.

Please don't mark the proper https://metacpan.org/release/RHOELZ/Inline-Lua-0.17 release for deletion.

But please mark your broken release tarball https://metacpan.org/release/MEFORLUA/Inline-Lua- for deletion soon.
It won't make things worse, believe me.
It will take 3 days until the deletion happens anyway.
The old proper 0.17 tarball is still there, so people can download it. The indexer just needs to index it again.
