(Describe the issue/bug)

Enabling any codes at all in HMM (HMM 8 Beta from Discover) causes progression to break after the first enemy encounter during Kronos Island's tutorial. After defeating the enemies, the Skill Pieces popup won't appear and the game won't save, nor will it show the cutscene of the soldiers appearing afterwards. Defeating the guardian and collecting its gear won't open the door, and going around the doors to eventually reach the 1-2 portal won't spawn the Tower guardian. This means there's no way to open the bridge to cross over to the main island. Even waiting until after you get the Chaos Emerald to enable codes breaks progression.

(Expected Behaviour)

I was expecting codes to still allow me to progress through the island. The later islands don't suffer from this problem, only Kronos does.

(Additional Context)

Mods in order:
-Vanilla+ Experience
-Loco's Reimagined Slide
-jav.wav's Improved Camera
-Character Themes (SA1)

Codes:
-Disable Jellyfish Camera Lock-On
-Disable Loop Kick on Slide
-Retain Horizontal Velocity from Stomp
-Retain Horizontal Velocity from Jump
-Disable Spin Charge Camera
-Disable Skill Camera Events

This mirrors an issue I had with certain HMM mods/codes on Linux when ProtonGE was still not yet at version 9.10, and the prefix was not properly fixed to use mods. I'm unsure of how relevant that would be if you're not on Linux, but downloading the latest ProtonGE fork for Frontiers would likely fix this if you were.

I am on Linux (steam deck), could you please tell me how to download that ProtonGE fork?

Apologies for the late reply and you've probably already found out, but ProtonGE can be added to Steam games through ProtonUp-QT, which you can get in the Discover store. You can manage which games have which compatibility layer through the app while Steam is closed. If you've installed your game to an SD card, you may need to give ProtonUp-QT permission to see your SD card through something like Flatseal or a terminal command that's likely listed on ProtonUp-QT's GitHub. You can also use Wine Cellar though Decky Loader if you have that installed.

Again, ProtonGE 9-10 had fixed this issue for me (though I've had issues with performance on multiple desktop Linux installs past 9-15, though not on Deck so your mileage may vary).

For added reference, could you also double check that when you enter the homing attack tutorial and go to defeat the soldiers, that the Ninja music still plays and the semi-transparent force field to box you in and prevent you from skipping the first battle also spawns?

I see, so "GE-Proton9-10" is the one I need? (I'll check to make sure the forcefield and music appear afterwards)

Yes, any of the releases after 9-10 should have the fix.

9-10 doesn't fix the progress break.

I switched to 9-26 and I THINK it's fixed now? Maybe? The tutorial is progressing as it should, though I'm also using different mods and only 2 codes so take that with a grain of salt.

Update: No it didn't and I have no idea why at this point.

I recently found out Vanilla+ Experience by Mike breaks this too. jav.wav's camera probably breaks it as well. Tutorial Skip also seems to break it.

Enabling the tutorial skip code flat out crashes the game for me now, and i'll look into seeing if disabling jav's improved camera changes anything once i'm in a better state of mind.

Disabled jav's camera, it didn't fix anything.
