Emulator fail to start

Environment details

• OS: Ubuntu v16.04
• Node.js version: v8.9.4
• npm version: v5.6.0
• @google-cloud/functions-emulator version: 1.0.0-beta.5

Steps to reproduce

1. $ sudo npm install -g @google-cloud/functions-emulator
2. $ functions config set projectId hello_id
3. $ pgrep node # to make sure no node process is running
4. $ functions start
   Starting Google Cloud Functions Emulator...
   Google Cloud Functions Emulator STARTED
   --> Hangs here for quite a while and then fails with following error message <---
   ERROR: Error: socket hang up
   at createHangUpError (_http_client.js:331:15)
   at Socket.socketOnEnd (_http_client.js:423:23)
   at emitNone (events.js:111:20)
   at Socket.emit (events.js:208:7)
   at endReadableNT (_stream_readable.js:1055:12)
   at _combinedTickCallback (internal/process/next_tick.js:138:11)
   at process._tickCallback (internal/process/next_tick.js:180:9)

Following these steps will guarantee the quickest resolution possible.
