Export geological models to modflow grids

Hello Community!

I just wanted to ask if there are any plans soon to build the capability of exporting the geological models from GemPy to modflow grids! (Or maybe also into flopy directly! 😄
This would be a major breaktrhough towards a clean and open-source worflow from geological data to groundwater modeling!

thanks for your comment. I am gonna start with the bad news: I do not think anyone is currently planning on doing this.

For the good news maybe some context. Things like these convenience functions are not super high priority for us. As an open source project we do not have the funds & time to do these things normally. We are also trying to keep the core of gempy free of these convenience functions to reduce dependencies and enhance stability of the core package.

Your feature would however fit perfectly in gempy plugins. This is basically a connected repository for things like this. If you start working an a module like this there (e.g by starting a draft pull request) we are happy to help if you need any help or advice.

I understand the limitations that a open-source project might have 😄
Helping this nice community to build functions related to groundwater modeling would be amazing for me (when I find some time for it!)
I will start by forking gempy-plugins and see how I can help,

That sounds great. You can also just make a draft pull request branch and work on that. This way we can directly join the action if you need help (or we find the time).

Great idea by both of you :) Feel free to tag me along the way. We are also looking into links to pygimli, so maybe there is some overlap. Could you maybe outline, what the requirements are for the mesh input for flopy?
