TL;DR, the "Assume Good Intent" mantra, is a historic Open Source thing to maintain civility and focus. It's a community management tactic that in a monocultured environment, can work. Unfortunately, it overlooks the experiences of historically disenfranchised ppl (female presenting, non-white, queer, disabled contributors) whom are often treated differently because of how we are different.
While I KNOW for a FACT the truth that EVERYONE at FPF has the best of intentions and their heart in the right place—unconscious bias is so hard to crack, because it is unconscious. Supporting perpetrators more than those of us harmed by a life of microagressions piling-up, is the impact of "Good Intent" sections. And, again, I appreciate the intent of these sections is to keep projects on track. To ship, and to prioritize shipping ahead of solving society's long fought problems.
Impact needs to matter more than intentions, when seeking to support and uplift historically disenfranchised folks. I love all of y'all, and want to see y'all succeed. I also studied DEI problems in the wild for 2 years for "Equal Together," taking time off from UX to do nothing but DEI. It's not obvious or straightforward work, and it is work. 🙏🏻
Much love to all y'all...

Hi: I realize Issues are probably not the place to discuss CoC, but I did want to put this on the table for consideration.
Pls read: https://thebias.com/2017/09/26/how-good-intent-undermines-diversity-and-inclusion/
