Add support for translations

I am wondering whether this feature, which was already discussed for EVT 2 (issue), is not too far on the roadmap for EVT 3. In many philological traditions, it is actually expected to produce and display a translation when you edit a text.

Can I avoid the choice between EVT 1.3 with a a translation and EVT 3 with a proper presentation of the critical apparatus? If there is a way to hack the versions layer to display a translation alongside the critical edition, I’d be happy to have your advice!

We are working towards support for synoptic editions, that of original text + translation(s) is one possible use case!

Do you see a makeshift way to display a translation with EVT 3? I haven’t used the displaying/comparing versions feature yet, but I feel it could be hacked for this purpose.

One immediate use case for me is to help a student port this edition from EVT 1.3 to EVT 3. Should we just try to marginally improve the 1.3 edition?

I managed to use EVT 3 for a critical edition, as discussed before. However, I would like to understand the Text Versions/changesView feature (to see if it could be used to display a translation) and cannot find the relevant documentation. I’m unsure whether it requires a specific TEI structure. All the EVT demos I looked at don’t seem to implement versions. Could you please tell me where I can get some pointers and/or an example project?

I guess you will have to wait for the proper synoptic view to display text and translation(s) at the same time, because the changesView feature enables the <listChange> handling for genetic criticism / authorial philology, it's not at all a way to display different versions of a text but rather the changes performed by an author on the text during time. You can see it yourself loading the Saba sample edition:

although in the current beta there has been a conflict with the Prose/Prose with verse numbers/Verse selector (it's not shown as a poem).

Capito! I misunderstood the feature for some kind of genetic criticism module. I will wait for the synoptic view, then, of course!
