What this project is about:
This project plans to use an IMDB movie data set to determine how the background of a film (such as the actors, directors, social media presence, etc.) affects one of two things: the money made at the box office, or the IMDB rating of the movie. This project will potentially be able to help directors and casting make choices about the movie in order to make it as successful as possible.

What I like about this project:

  1. This project aims to answer a question that potentially not many people have thought about- how does the background of a film affect its success as opposed to the actual quality and writing of the film?
  2. The data set has a lot of interesting features which can be utilized in order to answer the question at hand.
  3. The group has put a lot of thought into what models would be the best for this assignment and how the tools we have learned in class can help them succeed.

Suggestions for Improvement:

  1. What do you think some of the challenges of this project are going to be? Planning ahead might be helpful before you start so that you can predict what you need to focus on.
  2. In your two stated goals, is there a question you care to answer more than another? Which do you think is more important? It might be good to choose a primary goal and dive deep into that goal.
  3. After predicting the success of a movie, it will be important for directors to understand the key features of what makes a film successful. I would suggest making it a goal to find a list of the most important features so that the results can be utilized to their fullest.
