Description

I'm currently running Ente Auth v4.0.2 and the app prompted me to update. So I grabbed the ente-auth-v4.1.0-x86_64.deb file from GitHub and attempted to upgrade. But the first thing that prompted was to install the app not update. After then installing I now have 2 apps. Auth (v4.0.2) and Ente Auth (v4.1.0).

Is this expected? Also since it seems user data is not transferred.
Previously it would replace/upgrade the existing app and user data would stay in place.

Version

v4.1.0

What product are you using?

Ente Auth

What platform are you using?

I am having the same issue with the .deb on Ubuntu 24.10. Running top in the terminal shows the old version under:

/usr/bin/ente_auth

And the new 4.1 version is:

/usr/bin/enteauth

So the difference is just the "_" between "ente" and "auth".

I am unable to completely delete the old version through command line.

Also, the new version opens a second icon in the dock with a gear symbol whereas the old version just had the stock purple icon shown as running.

You can uninstall the old version by using sudo apt remove auth. It worked for me on Ubuntu 24.04.

It would be nice to remove the update prompt every time we open the app for situations like this when we can't update.

Removing the old app manually works, but the icon is still missing in the new version.

That command doesn't completely remove ente from the system. It leaves many files.
