Hello,

Emmet plugin fails on installing on Brackets 1.8 (Mac Sierra). I tried every install options (GUI / zip / URL).

Same here.

Found a workaround. I uninstalled brackets 1.8 and downloaded and installed brackets 1.7 from here https://github.com/adobe/brackets/releases/tag/release-1.7
Installed Emmet through extension manager in 1.7, then updated to 1.8. Seems to still be working.

I have the same issue in 1.9. I get error message "Installation failed. The extension encountered an error while starting up." I have tried both through the extension manager, and using the ZIP. Afterwards, Emmet seems to be installed anyway. It appears in the menu at the top, and shortcuts work, but do not perform correctly for example "html:5" expands to <html:5></html:5> I'm going to try @walrusdunne 's trick.

walrusdunne's workaround seemed to work for the installation, but I still have the abbreviation expansion problem, going on to google it some more.
