To see the output of xcodebuild, edit the BUILD_CMD= line to temporarily remove > /dev/null 2>&1 so that build errors will be displayed. This should show you why the build is failing.

For me, it failed because macOS build destinations were available, and my framework is IOS-only. I worked around this by adding -destination "platform=iOS Simulator,id=..." to the build command. Having this as an easy option in the script (maybe another shell variable) would be a nice feature request.
