Description
Based on our previous discussion here dracor-org/caldracor#58
Regarding the valid Wikidata literary genres, for CalDraCor we propose the following genre mapping:
- comedia → comedia (Q6592456)
This item explicitly describes the Spanish Golden Age dramatic genre and is therefore a much better fit than comedy (Q40831), which carries a classical/Anglophone meaning not applicable to Calderón or the "comedia nueva". - tragedia → tragedy (Q80930)
- tragicomedia → tragicomedy (Q192881)
- auto sacramental → auto sacramental (Q4877154)
- zarzuela → zarzuela (Q148163)
This approach aims to remain faithful to Golden Age genre theory while maintaining interoperability with DraCor and Wikidata: in the Spanish Golden Age, "comedia" functions as a hyperonym for nearly all non-sacramental drama and does not correspond to “comedy” in the classical sense.
Using Q6592456 avoids misleading equivalences and preserves the historical specificity of the genre.
All proposed QIDs are valid Wikidata entities and can be used safely in <classCode> within the DraCor TEI ODD.
The codes were already added to CalDraCor with this pull request: dracor-org/caldracor#74
