How to support requirements.txt on a sensible OS X install?

Unfortunately, virtualenv doesn't work with anaconda (you get link errors because of libssl). I'm trying to figure out if pyvenv can be made to work, or maybe otherwise using homebrew.

@yadelab I think the best approach is this:

$ brew install python3
$ cd equal_read_interface # customize to the correct directory location!
$ /usr/local/bin/pyvenv-3.5 er_venv
$ . er_venv/bin/activate
$ pip install -r requirements.txt

I think this is generally a good solution for when you need a pip-managed installation on a venv. You can leave anaconda as your main python, and whenever you do:

$ . er_venv/bin/activate

You'll have that local environment until you type deactivate (or close the terminal).
