Describe what should be investigated or refactored

look into removing the generation functionality (maybe moving forward, and provide alternate types for previous types?) idk needs discussion, but I tested (quickly, will add to this issues branch for reference), need deeper testing and more eyes to see if a viable alternative to maintaining the generation
