Any details on why this cannot be achieved via the current GUI?

Sorry i didnt provide any details because i thougth it was obvious.

The GUI only ask for the Host name or IP, and auto complete with http:// in config. Then if you try to setup https://IP it will try to connect to http://https://IP

It okay, some of are not actively using the stuff we support so any details is useful. The easy fix imo is dont auto complete and get people to enter the preferred scheme.
