When someone's post is deleted, they should be notified of the deletion. This should be a passive notification (which silently accumulate and are released with the next non-passive notification). The notification should distinguish between 'your post was deleted' and 'the entire thread was deleted'.
This might not even be possible. Right now I don't remember whether or not subscribed users' posts are tracked or if it's just notifiable posts. If it's the latter, then there would never be more than a handful of posts that would trigger this come through the database, so the suggestion is basically pointless.
