At the early beginning of 3D graphics there was a software library Inventor (now OpenInventor) with its SoMaterial which still has an ambientColor property. https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/noble/man3/SoMaterial.3iv.html. VRML evolved from Inventor, and along the way, ambientColor disappeared. The only way now to have some color in the ambient light is to give the light a color. |

Hi, what do you think of having an AmbientColor added to the DirectionalLight node.
The idea is to mimic, for instance, the blue sky that lights up the dark side of objects.
The default would be white (1 1 1) so it doesn't affect anybody's current work.
But if you want to make the dark side of objects a little bluer ( say 0.8 0.8 1 ) (or any color) just add this field.
We already have an AmbientIntensity to the light and Material Nodes.
